The Silence Gap Inserter adds dead air on purpose. Choose a duration from 0.05 to 30 seconds and a position — at the start, at the end, or at any point you mark by dragging a selection on the waveform — and the gap is spliced in. The track grows by exactly the inserted amount, and the panel shows the new total length before you apply.

It’s the complement to the Silence Trimmer: instead of removing dead air, you add it deliberately — lead-in room before a podcast starts, breathing space between sections, a tail so a track doesn’t end the instant the last note stops, or padding to hit an exact runtime requirement.

Tips

For mid-track gaps, drag the waveform selection so its left edge sits exactly where the pause should begin — that point is where the silence is inserted.
Stack multiple gaps by applying repeatedly; each insertion builds on the previous result.
Building a quiz or language drill? Insert the same gap after each phrase to give consistent answer time.
If the surrounding audio has audible room tone, a pure-silence gap can feel unnaturally "dead." Keep gaps short, or place them at natural pauses where the contrast is less noticeable.
