That constant low buzz under a recording is almost always mains hum — interference from AC power at exactly 50 Hz (Europe, Asia, Africa) or 60 Hz (the Americas), plus quieter overtones at multiples of that frequency. The Q control sets how narrow each notch is, from 5 (wide, aggressive) to 100 (scalpel-thin). Tips

Not sure if your country is 50 or 60 Hz? Try both and listen — the wrong one will do nothing, the right one kills the buzz instantly.
Hum with a harsh, edgy character lives in the harmonics, not the fundamental — that’s when raising Harmonics from 2 toward 5 makes the difference.
Start with high Q (narrow notches) and only widen (lower Q) if hum still leaks through. Wide notches at 50–60 Hz start eating bass guitar and kick drum.
Hum is different from hiss: hum is a low pitched buzz at a fixed frequency; hiss is broadband noise like air escaping. For hiss, fan noise, and room tone, use the Noise Reducer — it learns the noise from your recording and subtracts it.

What causes hum in audio recordings?: AC mains electricity leaking into the signal path — ground loops, unshielded cables, cheap power supplies, or recording near transformers and dimmers. Because mains runs at exactly 50 or 60 Hz, the hum sits at that frequency plus multiples of it (harmonics), which is precisely what this tool notches out.
Will removing hum damage the rest of my audio?: Very little, because the notches are extremely narrow — at the default Q of 30 each notch is only a few Hz wide. Music and voice spread energy across the whole spectrum, so losing hair-thin slices at 50/100/150 Hz is inaudible in almost all material.
What are harmonics and how many should I remove?: Hum rarely exists only at its fundamental — the distortion that created it also produces overtones at 2×, 3×, 4× the frequency (100, 150, 200 Hz for 50 Hz mains). The default of 2 harmonics handles typical hum; raise toward 5 when the buzz has a bright, raspy edge.
What does the Q (notch sharpness) setting do?: Q controls notch width. Q=100 is a hair-thin cut that leaves everything around it untouched; Q=5 is a broad scoop that removes hum more aggressively but also takes neighboring frequencies with it.
