The Silence Splitter scans your file for quiet gaps and cuts it into separate downloads at each one — no manual marking. Three controls tune the detection: the Threshold (−80 to −20 dB) defines how quiet "silence" is, the Minimum gap (0.2–5 s) sets how long a pause must last to count as a split point, and Padding (0–500 ms) keeps a natural cushion of quiet around each piece so cuts don’t feel clipped.

You see the result before committing: the panel lists every detected segment with its time range, and updates live as you adjust the sliders. Apply, and each segment downloads as its own file, automatically numbered — recording-part01, recording-part02, and so on — ready for tagging, uploading, or further editing.

Tips

For music rips, a longer minimum gap (1.5–3 s) avoids false splits during quiet passages inside songs.
For speech, the default 0.8 s gap works well; podcasts with long thinking pauses may need 1.5 s+.
If background noise stops any silence from being detected, move the threshold up toward −35/−30 dB so the noise floor counts as silence.
The 100 ms default padding keeps starts and ends sounding natural — set it to 0 only when you need machine-tight cuts.

Frequently asked questions

How do I split a long recording into separate tracks automatically?: Open the Silence Splitter and drop in the recording. It detects the quiet gaps and lists the resulting parts immediately; adjust the threshold or minimum gap if the count looks wrong, then click Apply. Each part downloads as its own numbered file.
How are the output files named?: Using your original filename plus a zero-padded part number: my-recording-part01.wav, my-recording-part02.wav, and so on — so they sort correctly in any file browser.
What counts as "silence" for splitting?: Any stretch where the level stays below your threshold (default −45 dB) for at least the minimum gap duration (default 0.8 s). The audio is scanned in 10 ms windows, so detection is fine-grained, and both knobs are adjustable when material is unusually quiet or noisy.
It split my file into too many (or too few) parts — what do I adjust?: Too many parts: lengthen the minimum gap, or lower the threshold so quiet-but-present audio doesn’t count as silence. Too few: shorten the minimum gap or raise the threshold. The segment list updates live, so you can dial it in before applying.
Will the cuts chop off the starts and ends of words or notes?: The padding control exists for exactly this — it keeps up to 500 ms of audio before and after each detected segment (100 ms by default), so soft attacks and decays survive the cut.
