Mute Section replaces a chosen region of your audio with pure silence while keeping everything else — including the total duration — exactly as it was. Drag the highlighted region on the waveform to cover the part you want gone, check the readout showing the precise start, end and length of the selection, and apply. The samples in that range are zeroed; nothing is cut, shifted, or re-encoded.

Keeping the length identical is the point: when your audio has to stay in sync with something — a video, a slide deck, a multitrack session — deleting a swear word or a phone ring would shift everything after it. Muting removes the sound and leaves the timing untouched.

Tips

Zoom your selection precisely: the readout shows times to a tenth of a second, so you can mute exactly one word.
To remove the section entirely (shortening the file) instead of silencing it, use the Trim tool or the Audio Splitter — Mute Section always preserves length.
Muting creates instant silence; on loud material the hard edges can be audible. If the cut feels abrupt, select from natural pauses, where the transition hides itself.
For several mutes in one file, apply them one after another — each apply stacks on the previous result, and Undo steps back one at a time.
If the goal is quieter rather than silent, use Volume on a split-out section instead.
