StudioWavePro’s Silence Trimmer finds the first and last actual sound automatically and cuts everything outside them. You choose where to trim (start, end, or both), what counts as silence (a threshold from −80 to −20 dB), and how much natural quiet to keep as a cushion (0–1000 ms) so the audio doesn’t start with brutal immediacy.

The panel shows its work before you commit: exactly how many seconds will be removed from the head, how many from the tail, and the new duration — updated live as you move the sliders. If your levels are clean the defaults (−50 dB threshold, 100 ms cushion) just work; if there’s room tone or hiss, nudge the threshold up until the analysis catches the real start.

Tips

If the trim is eating the first quiet word, the threshold is too high — move it toward −60 or −70 dB so softer sounds count as "audio."
If background hiss or room tone stops anything from being trimmed, move the threshold up toward −40 dB so the noise floor counts as silence.
A 0 ms cushion makes cuts feel uncomfortably instant on voice; the 100 ms default sounds natural, and music can take 200–300 ms.
This tool only trims the edges. For pauses inside the recording, use the Silence Remover — it cuts every silent gap and joins the rest back into one continuous track.
Trimming silence before normalizing is good practice: dead air doesn’t affect peak normalization, but it does pad LUFS measurements and file length.

How do I remove silence from the beginning and end of an audio file?: Open the Silence Trimmer, drop in the file, leave the mode on "Both," and check the analysis box — it shows exactly how much will be cut from each end. Click Apply and download. With the default settings this is a 20-second job.
What does the threshold setting mean?: It defines what counts as silence, from −80 dB (only near-digital-zero counts) to −20 dB (anything quiet counts). Samples louder than the threshold are treated as real audio. The default −50 dB suits typical voice recordings with a normal noise floor.
What is the cushion for?: It keeps a configurable slice of natural quiet (0–1000 ms) before the first sound and after the last, instead of starting the file at the exact first waveform. 100 ms — the default — is enough to keep speech from feeling abruptly chopped.
Why didn’t anything get trimmed from my file?: Most likely the background noise is louder than the threshold, so the tool sees "sound" from the very first sample. Raise the threshold (toward −40 dB) until the analysis box shows a trim. If the file genuinely starts with audio, there is simply nothing to remove.
Can it remove pauses in the middle of the recording too?: No — this tool deliberately touches only the start and end. For internal pauses, use the Silence Remover, which cuts every silent gap and automatically joins the remaining audio into a single tightened track.
Will trimming silence affect the audio quality?: No — the kept region is copied sample-for-sample with no processing. Export as WAV and the surviving audio is bit-identical to the original.
