Flip waveform for phase alignment
This audio inverter performs one exact operation: it inverts the sound wave — every sample is multiplied by −1, turning the waveform upside down. Played alone, the result is indistinguishable from the original — ears don’t perceive absolute polarity. Its power appears the moment the audio is combined with another signal: if two takes of the same source are out of polarity, mixing them cancels instead of reinforcing, and the sound turns thin and hollow. Flipping one of them fixes it.
That makes this a troubleshooting and verification tool. The classic test: layer two recordings of the same thing — if the combination gets quieter or loses all its bass, they were fighting each other; invert one and the body comes back. The same trick, called a null test, verifies whether two files are truly identical: an inverted copy mixed with the original cancels to perfect silence only if nothing differs.
