You control what counts as silence (an adjustable threshold from −80 to −20 dB), which pauses get removed (only gaps longer than your chosen minimum — short breaths and natural phrasing survive), and how much quiet to keep at each cut (0–500 ms of original room tone) so the result never sounds robotically compressed.

Tips

If quiet speech is being treated as silence, lower the threshold toward −60 dB; if background hiss stops gaps from being detected, raise it toward −35 dB.
For speech, keeping 100–200 ms at each cut sounds natural; 0 ms gives the hyper-tight "jump cut" pacing popular in YouTube voiceovers.
Raise "Remove pauses longer than" to 1–2 s for conversational material — it removes only the awkward gaps while leaving the rhythm of the dialogue intact.

How do I remove silence from the middle of an audio file?: Open the Silence Remover, drop in your file, and check the analysis box — it lists how many silent gaps were found and how much time they add up to. Does it split my audio into multiple files?: No — that’s the difference from the Silence Splitter. The Silence Remover cuts the silent gaps and joins everything back into a single track, which you download as one file.
Will it cut out my natural pauses and breaths?: Only if you tell it to. The "Remove pauses longer than" setting (0.2–5 s) protects anything shorter — at the 0.6 s default, breaths and normal phrasing pauses are left exactly as recorded, and only genuinely long gaps are collapsed.
Why do the cuts not sound abrupt?: Two reasons: each removed gap keeps a configurable slice of the original room tone (150 ms by default) instead of jumping straight to the next sound, and every join gets a short anti-click crossfade so there are no pops at the cut points.
Can I hear the result before applying it?: Yes — the Play preview button renders the joined track and plays it back, so you can judge the pacing before committing. If you change a slider, press play again to hear the updated cut.
Why does it say 0 gaps were found?: Usually the background noise in the recording is louder than the silence threshold, so nothing registers as silent. Raise the threshold toward −35 or −30 dB until the analysis box starts counting gaps. The opposite case — too many gaps — means the threshold is too high.
Will removing silence affect the audio quality?: The kept audio is copied sample-for-sample; only the few milliseconds around each join are faded to prevent clicks. Export as WAV and everything between the cuts is bit-identical to the original.
