Under the hood it uses the proven center-channel removal technique. In most studio recordings the vocal is mixed dead-center in the stereo image, while guitars, drums, and reverb are panned to the sides. By subtracting the right channel from the left, anything mixed to the center cancels out — and the vocal disappears. It’s the same trick early karaoke machines used, refined for modern audio with a strength slider so you can dial in how aggressive the removal feels.

Tips

If the karaoke version sounds thin or hollow, drop the strength to 80–90% — full cancellation can over-process pop tracks with stereo-widened mixes.
Vocal Remover only works on stereo recordings — mono files have no L/R difference to subtract from. Check the track info before applying.
Modern tracks with heavy stereo widening, side-chained reverbs, or doubled vocals may leave artifacts. That’s the cost of the technique, not a bug — for studio-grade separation, AI-powered tools like Demucs are needed and we’ll add those in a future update.
